In Loving Memory of Willie Nathan Fulfer
August 5, 1948 – January 27, 2026, Aged 77
Willie Fulfer, a man of unshakable character and quiet strength, passed away on January 27, 2026. A proud Marine, a dedicated businessman, and a pillar of his community, Willie lived a life defined by service - whether on the battlefields of Vietnam or playing music in the halls of local nursing homes.
Early Life and Service
Born on August 5, 1948 in Strawn, Texas, Willie was the son of the late Tess Fulfer and Sue Fulfer-Penning. Willie was preceded in death by his stepfather, Ray Penning.
Willie grew up with a natural affinity for hunting in the outdoors and a competitive spirit. He attended school in Huckabee, Texas, where he took to the basketball court as a starter on the team and eventually graduating with the Class of 1965. After a brief stint at Ranger Junior College and time spent working cattle and helping build the campus of Tarleton State University, Willie felt a higher calling and joined the United States Marine Corps, where he’d go on to serve as a scout sniper. His service was marked by immense bravery and sacrifice; he was wounded in the line of duty by an enemy grenade and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Career and Family
Upon returning home, Willie worked for Merchants Freight Company, and by chance in 1988 he met the love of his life at a local dance hall that changed his life forever. He met Brenda Patterson, the love of his life, and the two were married in November 1989. Together, they founded Player’s Sportstuff, a sporting goods business that became a staple of the community. For many successful years, Willie was the go-to provider for local sports associations, ensuring that generations of athletes had the uniforms and gear they needed. His commitment to service continued into his adult life as both he and Brenda served in the Texas State Guard.
Retirement and Simple Pleasures
After selling the business and retiring, Willie transitioned his focus to his community and his hobbies. He, Brenda, and their friends frequently played country music at various community events, from the Peach Festival to nursing homes, and many jam sessions which brought joy to many. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church and spent his golden years enjoying the things he loved: from road trips to outdoor destinations like Yellowstone, hunting, fishing, and target shooting, and watching Westerns like The Lone Ranger, while taking the time to enjoy a cold Dr Pepper, a hearty stew, or a simple bowl of vanilla ice cream.
End of Life
In December, 2022, after a long battle with recurring cancer, Willie was preceded in death by Brenda, his loving spouse of over three decades, who welcomed him in the Kingdom of Heaven with love, laughter, and music that will last an eternity.
Willie was a "rugged Marine" through and through - stern but deeply loving. He raised his surviving children, Sheralyn Fulfer, Kindle Collins, Phillip Phillips, and Wesley Fulfer to know right from wrong and was always be ready to lend a helping hand to anyone, to each other, and those in need. He is also survived by his four granddaughters, Courtney, Hallie, Isla, and Bellamy, as well as two great granddaughters, Avyntean and Maddison.
Willie Fulfer’s memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 4th, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., located at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086. His wish was to be cremated and a private burial for immediate family will occur at a later date after his memorial.
"Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world. A veteran does not have that problem."
