William Lafayette Graves

November 26, 1910 — April 10, 2007

  William Lafayette Graves, 96, a retired rancher of Whitt, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007. Mr. Graves was born November 26, 1910, in Whitt, Texas, to William Thomas and Jewell T. Stewart Graves. He worked in the CCC Corp and the American Railway Express serving the military bases in the Abilene area during World War II. He returned to Whitt in 1972 and was active in the Whitt Cemetery Association and a member of the Whitt Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and was recognized in publications including Birds and Blooms, Texas Gardener and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. 

  Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 2007, in Whitt Cemetery. Visitation is from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. 

  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, LaFawn; daughter, Ann Levine and husband, Dick of Azle; sons, Walter Graves and wife, Cindy of Springtown and Bennie Graves and wife, Judy of Abilene; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
