  Vaughn Dale Stanford, 83, of Weatherford, died Monday July 7, 2008, in a Ft. Worth hospital. Born June 2, 1925, in Friona, Texas, to John and Erma Stanford, he was a resident of Weatherford for many years. Vaughn was a fire fighter for Pantex in Amarillo and later worked for Stanco Tower Company also in Amarillo. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Boyd; during World War II he was at sea two years without seeing land. He removed injured soldiers from the USS Houston and saw many battles during his time at sea.   

  A daughter, Theresa Stanford; brother, William Thomas Stanford; and two spouses, Doris Nell and Rosemary Pauline Stanford, preceded him in death. 

  Vaughn is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Darey E. Sandifer and Debbie and Tony Adair all of Weatherford; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Barbara Stanford of Weatherford, Rick and Ginger Stanford of Mineral Wells and Pastor Raydon and Sharla Stanford of Muleshoe; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia Ann and John Nash of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother and sister-in-law, Darelle and Wanda Stanford of Weatherford; thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and an expected great great grandchild.  

  A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, in the First Baptist Church of Horseshoe Bend. Interment will be held at a later date in DFW National cemetery.
