Ted Witt was born in the city of St. Louis on July 7, 1950. He grew up in Jennings, Missouri, one block away from his future wife, Victoria Jean Ciolek. They married in June, 1972.
Ted graduated from Fairview High School, the University of Missouri - St. Louis, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received the pencil at orientation for transferring in with the most college hours. Taking loads of accounting classes at night, he was able to transfer into the Audit Division of the Texas State Comptroller for 33 years. He was well-respected by his co-workers and the people he audited.
Ted taught 8th-grade Sunday School for most of his adult life. He loved those young people and never judged them for being 13-year-olds. Life gets better.
Ted graduated from UMSL in May, 1972, married Vicki in June, and relocated to Fort Worth in August. They moved into SWBTS housing, where they didn't know anyone and didn't care. They were married for 53 years.
His greatest pride was his two children, Carolyn and Steve. He attended every performance, Scout meeting, and game. Both children (and his wife) graduated (debt-free) from Texas Christian University. Both children received masters degrees.
He had a life-long love of theater from high school days. Ted produced years of Christmas pageants at Travis Avenue Baptist Church. He and Vicki wrote and produced a musical based on "The Robe" by Lloyd C. Douglas. In retirement, he started volunteering at the Bass Hall. He served as an usher and tour guide; a bus manager for the Children's Education Program; and as an Audio Describer, where he described the stage action of the musicals for patrons with visual impairment. He was always asked to list his favorites. And the list went on and on.
Ted traveled to Siberia (yes!) and Nicaragua with Jody Kennedy International to teach conversational English. He taught ESL at Gambrell Street Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
Ted loved Jesus. Ted loved the practically-perfect-in-every-way Carolyn Witt Clark, her wonderful husband, Jay, and their four delightful children, Jestin, Grace, Drew, and Lizzie. He loved the amazing Steve and marvelous Megan, and their two dynamos, Caden and Damen.
His illness was sudden and severe. He regretted leaving all his family and friends behind. He wanted to see one more Nutcracker performance. But he was so tired and ready to go to friends waiting for him in heaven. Please rejoice in the sweet memories we all share with this wonderful man. We will see him again.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
