It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roberta Ann Gates, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Roberta peacefully departed on Friday, June 21, 2024, at the age of 75 in the comfort of her home. She was born on December 22, 1948, in Richmond, California.
Roberta's journey through life was beautifully intertwined with love and companionship. It was fate that led her to meet her dear husband: a blind date at the movie theater set up by her cousin blossomed into a lifelong partnership. Their union on February 1, 1966, marked the beginning of a profound love story filled with shared joys and cherished memories.
A woman of remarkable talents and passion, Roberta dedicated herself to helping others through various roles. From serving as a counselor in school districts to supporting students as a special education teacher and contributing to the State of California's small business development sector for two decades, her impact was truly far-reaching.
Upon retirement, Roberta and her husband embraced newfound adventures together. Their shared love for NASCAR and travel created timeless moments until an unexpected mishap brought laughter - when the wheel quite literally fell off their travel trailer during one of their journeys.
In quieter moments, Roberta found solace in creativity. Crafting, baking delicious treats, decorating cakes with love, and exploring the world of painting were sources of endless joy for her.
Roberta leaves behind a legacy of love and family bonds that will forever be treasured. She is survived by her devoted husband, Edward "Ed" Gates Sr.; loving children, Patches Kolb (Roger) and Edward Gates Jr. (Crystal); sisters, Kathy Huntsinger (Bill) and Laveda Keen; adored grandchildren, Joshua, Amber, Jakob, Andrea, Eddie, Tristen, Abigail, and Alicia; as well as her precious great-grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew, Josiah, Elijah, Genevieve, Caroline, Hailey, Ava, Maggie, Emma, Elijah, and Evan. She is reunited with her parents, Ricky and Dorothy Poor, and sister, Tammy Lee.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Roberta's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Memory Gardens in Weatherford, Texas. May we find solace in remembering the light she brought into our lives as we bid farewell to a remarkable woman whose spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
