Ricky Olson

July 12, 1955 — December 22, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Ricky Wade Olson, who left this world on December 22, 2024, at the age of 69. Born July 12, 1955, in Cleburne, Texas, Rick was the cherished son of Charles Olson and Donnie Morris Olson. On July 15, 1988, he married the love of his life, Cindy Driver Olson and had the honor of becoming step-father to two daughters, Melissa and Rachel. In 1989, they welcomed the birth of their son, Justin.

Rick and Cindy spent 36 years together, building their beautiful family legacy. Their journey was marked by both challenges and profound moments of faith that left a lasting impact on them. When their son Justin was 10 months old, he had heart surgery. Amidst these trials a traveling salesman stopped by their home. Rather than focusing on making a sale, he wanted to pray for their son, which led to an invitation to church. This moment became a pivotal turning point for Rick. Rick gave his life to Christ at Harvest Time Family Church in Weatherford, Texas.

Rick and Cindy moved to Meridian and served as interim youth leaders. They enjoyed taking the youth to multiple Christian concerts and youth retreats. Rick’s love for music was evident as he played rhythm guitar during contemporary services at his church. His journey of faith continued when he and Cindy attended a small start-up church, where Rick once again took on the role of leading worship music. In 2012, Rick and Cindy relocated to Granbury, where Rick continued to share his gift of music by playing guitar in a small church band once again.

As a licensed journeyman electrician, he spent his career working tirelessly for many different electrical companies. One would be amazed at how many commercial and residential places that his hands have touched throughout Texas. He worked outages at the nuclear plant in Glen Rose. Between outages he dabbled in remodeling and flipping houses. He and his wife Cindy operated a family fireworks business for over eleven years in Bosque and Hill County.

In his younger years, he enjoyed dove and deer hunting. Later in life, he continued to hunt, but enjoyed watching nature more instead. Some of his favorite times were sitting on the porch picking on the guitar with family and friends. He loved the outdoors. Rick enjoyed cruising and traveling to many places. They found a home away from home at Big Cedar Wilderness Club in Missouri, which became one of their favorite places to visit.

Rick was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Donnie and Charlie Olson, and a brother, Fred Olson.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Olson; his daughter, Melissa Townley and her husband, Terry, daughter, Rachel Beck, and son, Justin Olson; and his brother, Dan Olson and wife, Kelly.

The legacy of love continues through his grandchildren: Tillman Townley and wife, Alicia, Brooke Townley, Colby Townley, Cameron Townley, Corey Townley, and Seth Gilmore; as well as his great-grandchildren: Taytum, Casen, Reagan, Carter, Colt, and Paisley.

A Celebration of Life to honor Rick will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Galbreath Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm Street, in Weatherford, Texas.
