Rebecca “Rebel” Ann Burris, beloved wife, mother, Grammy, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2026. She was 73 years old.
Rebel was born on October 23, 1952, to the parents of John and Hattye McCullough. She was a proud 1971 graduate of C.F. Brewer High School where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Phillip Burris. They were happily married for 54 years.
She leaves behind her husband and partner in life, Phillip Burris; her daughter, Mandy Jenkins and husband Chris; and her son, Josh Burris and wife Christina. Her greatest treasures were her grandchildren: Lauren Knell and husband Peyton, Christopher Burris and fiancé Jaime, Jacob Burris, Colby Jenkins, and Jonathan Burris. She was a Grammy who was immensely proud of each and every one of them. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Lillian, Callum, Bennett, and Ryder, who brought another special kind of joy to her life, as well as extended family and countless friends who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hattye McCullough and her brother, Phil McCullough.
To know Rebel was to love her. She was someone who loved deeply, enjoyed life, and showed up for the people she loved. She was kind, generous, funny, a fiercely proud mother, a devoted wife, a beloved Grammy, and the kind of friend who made life more fun simply by being there.
Rebel loved dancing, animals, taking care of her plants and yard, time with her friends, watching her Texas Rangers, and laughing at her favorite sitcoms, but her greatest joy was her family.
She was the mom who wanted to be there for it all. Games, performances, celebrations, graduations, milestones, and all the little moments in between—if her children or grandchildren were involved, Rebel wanted to be there. She cheered them on, supported them, celebrated their accomplishments, and loved being a part of their lives. Her family knew that no matter what was happening, Grammy would be there.
Rebel’s love extended beyond her immediate family. Rebel treasured her friendships and was a loyal and dedicated friend. She loved getting together, sharing stories, laughing, and making memories with the people who mattered to her. She had a generous heart and had a way of making people feel welcomed and loved.
Her family will miss her laugh, her hugs, her silly stories, and seeing her face light up when she was surrounded by the people she loved. They will miss knowing she was in the crowd, cheering them on. They will miss the ordinary moments that never seemed important enough to remember at the time—but will become some of their most treasured memories.
She spent her life loving her family and being there for the people she cared about. Her greatest legacy isn't something she accomplished or something she owned. It is the love she gave and the people she made feel loved.
