Raymond Austin Shannon, age 57, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Born on September 14, 1966, in Redding, California, to Billie Shannon and Rose (Kinkade) Shannon, Raymond's presence illuminated the lives of those around him. He shared his musical gift as a bass player in the band Cynical Sam and displayed his artistic talents through directing, acting, and set design at Theater Off the Square for a remarkable 16 years. Formerly, Raymond was a local school bus driver but had worked at BFX Fire Apparatus for the last 5 years. He was a dedicated member of North Side Baptist Church; Raymond's passion for fishing was only matched by his unwavering friendship to all, his deep love as a husband, and his endearing role as a cherished "Yay" to his grandchildren.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Lorie Shannon of Weatherford, Texas; six children and their spouses, Joseph and Danika Shannon, Courtney and Christopher Hupp, Cheyenne and Kelly Workman, Jeffrey and Carrie Jo Mears, Matthew and Jessica Mears, and Jessica Padilla; along with fifteen adored grandchildren, Ethan, Audrey, Owen, Emily, Cadence, Rayden, Gunner, Allison, Maddox, Caleb, Morgan, Avery, Benico, Merritt, and Marina. Raymond is also remembered fondly by his two siblings, Ronda Lopez and Reynold Shannon, alongside numerous dear friends.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Billie and Rose Shannon, as well as by his son-in-law, Juan Padilla Requena.
A graveside service honoring Raymond's life will take place at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at East Greenwood Cemetery, in Weatherford, Texas. Prior to this solemn occasion, a visitation time has been scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, in Weatherford, Texas.
