On Thursday, July 16, 2026, our cherished and devoted "Pa" was finally reunited with his sweetheart, along with family and friends who had gone before him. Born in Bowie, Texas, to Lawrence and Hazel Trayler, he was welcomed home by two sisters, Nelda and Sandra. Phil then became a big brother to Steve. He grew up in Antelope, Texas, where he was a very active kid, participating in school sports, community programs, and enjoying that good ol' country life.
After graduating from high school and experiencing city life while living at Weatherford College, Philip enlisted in the Army in 1967, where he proudly served his country in Vietnam. After returning stateside and while stationed at Fort Bliss, he met the love of his life—his own beautiful rose. They married in February 1972 and soon settled in Weatherford.
Young life and passion for music, along with some good friends, developed into a fun run playing lead guitar in a local band at area venues. Phil and Rosie welcomed their first daughter in 1976. Soon afterward, Phil returned to civic service by enlisting in the National Guard. They welcomed Erica in 1980, and Sarah rounded out the trio in 1983.
Phil's truck-driving career began by delivering gas to local businesses and rural communities throughout Parker County before transitioning to driving a concrete mixer truck for Pioneer/Southern Star. Every drive through the DFW Metroplex became a discovery of locales where he had "poured that slab."
Dedication to and embracing the "girl dad" life came naturally to him, and later he embraced "grandpahood" just as easily. He was the best Pa any kid could ask for, instilling in them values of hard work, loving hard, playing is important – and a few things about berry picking, fishing, and jamming to some good tunes! Caring for and respecting all living creatures was a cornerstone of his personality.
After caring for his wife at home during her brief battle with ALS, his world became "a little less rosy." Soon thereafter came more earth-shattering news—a battle with cancer had begun. Pa fought valiantly with humble, quiet strength. His heroism is a testament to the fearlessness he inspired.
He was a great man who lived a simple and humble life in giving respect and kindness to everyone – and probably a good joke or two.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family during this difficult time.
