Paula Jean Lionberger, known to her grandchildren simply as Granna, passed from this world on April 9, 2026, in Weatherford, Texas, exactly as she had always lived: surrounded by love and laughter. She was 73 years old, and every single one of those years left a mark on someone who cherished her.

Born Paula Jean Pitchford on September 16, 1952, in Oceanside, California, to Bob and Martha Pitchford, Paula grew up knowing how to fill a room with warmth. She carried that gift all the way to Texas, where she wed her devoted husband, Mike Lionberger, and the two of them planted roots in Garner, Texas - roots that were held for 51 years.

She had a way of making you feel like the most important person in any room, and she meant it every single time. Paula possessed something that cannot be taught and cannot be faked: the rare, God-given ability to make every person she encountered feel genuinely and completely loved. It wasn't something she turned on for special occasions. It was simply who she was, woven into the fabric of every conversation, every phone call, every look across a crowded room that said I see you, and I'm glad you're here.

She had a memory for the things that mattered to people. She asked about those things. Not as small talk, but because she genuinely cared. People walked away from Paula feeling known, and that is one of the rarest gifts one person can give another. Her love was never passive - it showed up.

There was not a ball game, school play, piano recital, or school function belonging to any of her babies that Paula would have dared to miss. She was there. She showed up for birthdays and graduations, for weddings and new births, and she showed up just as faithfully for the hard days too: the funerals, the hospital waiting rooms, the quiet moments when someone just needed to know they weren't alone.

Showing up was her love language, and she was fluent in it.

Her love for family and friends was boundless, a force of nature that asked for nothing in return and gave everything freely. It is cherished by all who knew her, and it will be felt for generations to come in the people she poured herself into.

She is survived by her husband Mike; her children Jeremy and Cara Lionberger and Lana and James Caywood, their children, her greatest treasures: Sarah Willoughby, through years of love and shared moments, they built a bond that defied time, was unbreakable, as Granna bonds tend to be; Jordan Caywood, the one who made her a Granna first, and who she adored without reservation, making sure he and everyone around him knew it; Caylin Paje Caywood, her namesake and the one who inherited Granna's sweet, gentle spirit, a living reminder that the best of us carries on; Gracie Caywood, Paula called her Firecracker and loved every spark of it. Granna recognized a kindred spirit in a little girl who always found a way to get exactly what she wanted; Landry Lionberger, Granna was amazed at her beauty and in one of her final moments, Granna looked at Landry and told her she was "perfect." Some words are given at just the right time to last a lifetime; Obe Ray Lionberger, her best friend. Her ray of sunshine, in name and in truth. He brought light to her days, every single one, right up until the end; her beloved siblings, Alvin Pitchford and wife Gail, Vickie and husband Rick, Pat and husband Doug, Jo Cook and husband Wayne; treasured brother-in-law and best friend, George Lionberger and wife Diane; a wide, wonderful constellation of nieces, nephews, cousins, and bonus children who knew they were loved because she made sure of it.

Her parents, Bob and Martha Pitchford and in-laws, Obe and Betty Lionberger, preceded her in death.

Paula had the rare and beautiful quality of making everyone she loved feel seen. She was fiercely devoted, and quietly strong. She was a woman who got her way not through force, but through charm, something she shared, apparently, with at least one of her grandchildren.

She left this world the way she lived in it: surrounded by the people who knew, without any doubt, that they were loved.

Her love for family and friends was boundless, a force of nature that asked for nothing in return and gave everything freely. It is cherished by all who knew her, and it will be felt for generations to come in the people she poured herself into.
