Patricia Mae Mathison

February 10, 1942 — October 11, 2023

Patricia Mae "Pat" Mathison passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in a Mineral Wells hospital. She was 81.

Pat was born on February 10, 1942, in Anson, Texas to Shirley and Grant Henson. She grew up in Deleon, Texas and graduated from DeLeon High School with honors in 1960. She met James Mathison after moving to Weatherford and they married on October 12, 1963. At that time, she became a mom to his two boys, James Anthony "Tony" Mathison and Marc Allan Mathison. Their daughter, Jonna llicia was born in 1970. They enjoyed a loving marriage until James' passing in 2002.

Pat worked at the Fort Wolters Army Base before becoming a homemaker. She was president of the PTA, a Girl Scout leader, an officer in the local Agricultural Extension club, served on the Child Protective Services Community Board, drove for Meals on Wheels, and served in many elections as a clerk. She had her own business "The Holiday Boutique" which she ran for several years in the early 2000s. Pat was perhaps best known for her cake decorating and many birthdays, weddings, and other celebrations were enhanced by her artistry. In recent years Pat slowed down but enjoyed travel, gardening, shopping, and writing. She was a voracious reader and had recently completed the biographies of every U.S. president. She and many friends with whom she went to school kept in close touch and got together almost every month to have lunch and catch up. She also had wonderful times with her family, especially her grandchildren and her beloved canine companions Kiki and Daisy.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, James Mathison; son, Marc Mathison; brother, Eddie Henson; and sister, Melva Harwell; as well as her parents, Shirley Henson Brumbalow and Grant Henson; and an infant sister, Sylvia Sue Henson. Surviving her are her daughter, Jonna Johnston and son-in-law, Philip Johnston; son, Tony Mathison and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Mathison; grandchildren, Cayla Mathison, Andrew Johnston and fiancée, Nichole Fisher, Ashlyn Johnston, and Amanda Johnston; and her sister, Joyce Durham. She is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends all of whom meant the world to her.
