Orvel Penny Stone

  Orvel Penny Stone, 99, of Weatherford, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at his residence. Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel. Graveside service: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 21, 2020, at Zion Hill Cemetery. 

  Penny was born February 26, 1921, in Westover, Baylor County, Texas, to Emory Ellsworth and Omega Thurman Stone. He was a long-time faithful member of North Side Baptist Church, volunteered countless hours at The Center of Hope and helped with the Zion Hill Community Center. Penny was a welder and a mechanic that loved working with his hands. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and making birdhouses. Penny had a servant’s heart and had a passion for helping people.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Omega Thurman Stone, wife of 80 years, Belle Stone; daughter, Carolyn Carter; infant daughter, Kelley; and sons in law, Brian Sullivan and John Hopkins. 

  Penny is survived by his children, Elizabeth Hopkins, Bea King and husband, Bruce, Olivia Meyer and husband, Frank, Sandi Tuttle, Gay Steen and husband, Tom, Denece Harrison, Georgia Sullivan, and Tammy Clay and husband, Phil; son in law, Joe Carter and wife, Joyce; 15 granddaughters, five grandsons, and 31 great grandchildren.
