  Nolan Queen, Jr., age 87, of Weatherford, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014. Mr. Queen was born on February 3, 1927, to Nolan and Tempe Queen. Nolan was born in Weatherford and has been a lifetime resident of Weatherford, Parker County, Texas. Nolan attended elementary and junior high in Weatherford and graduated with the Weatherford High School class of 1944. He attended the New Mexico Military Institute and Weatherford Junior College. He continued his education at the University of Texas at Austin where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 1950 and a LLB (law degree) in 1953. He then returned to his hometown of Weatherford and established his residence and law practice in Weatherford. 

  In 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country until 1946, at which time he was honorably discharged. His entire service time was aboard an aircraft carrier, the USS Rudyerd Bay where he was attached to both the 3rd and 7th fleets in the Pacific theatre. He was in service with the invasion fleet of Japan when war ended. 

  Nolan married in 1958, and had three children: Nolan, III, Kelley Ann, and Laura. From 1955 – 1958 he served as County Judge of Parker County. For the next ten years he served as a combination Criminal District Attorney and County Attorney of Parker County. From 2000 – 2005 he served as the Municipal Judge for the City of Weatherford. In 2003, he was honored by the State Bar of Texas for 50 years of legal services to the community. Mr. Queen was recognized by the Parker County Hospital District for his service as a Trustee, where he has served since 1990. He has also served as its president and presiding officer for several years. Mr. Queen is a member of the Masonic Lodge, Phoenix Lodge #275 of Weatherford, a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and American Legion and past member of both the Lion’s Club and Rotary Clubs of Weatherford. 

  Nolan was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelley Ann Queen; son, Nolan Queen III; and sisters, Maxine (Mickey) Tarleton and Nolyne Shumaker. 

  Mr. Queen is survived by his daughter, Laura Morris and husband, Joseph; grandson, Matthew Morris; nephew, Chip Shumaker and wife, Nancy; nephew, Robbie Shumaker and wife, Cindy; and his “Girl Friday,” Rhonda Tatman; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

  Funeral service: 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 6, 2014, in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.

  Interment: Oakland Cemetery.

  Visitation: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
