Nancy Lee Osborne Daugherty passed away at home in Anna, Texas, on March 5, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Nancy was born in Kilgore, Texas, on January 16, 1937, to Benjamin Ervin Osborne and Matilda Angeline (Barber) Osborne. She grew up in Kilgore, Texas and graduated from Kilgore High School in 1955, along with the love of her life, Hiawatha Read Hodges Daugherty. They married on August 24, 1956 and raised three children.
Nancy continued her education, attending Stephen F. Austin State University and North Texas State University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Reading.
Upon graduation, Nancy taught for Allen ISD for 31 years (1969-2000). She taught one year of 5th grade and 2nd grade for the remaining 30 years. She was a long-time resident of Allen from 1974 to 2023, when she moved to Anna, Texas.
Nancy loved Worship, family, friends and reading. After retiring, she stayed active for many years with the Rountree Lunch Bunch, the Allen Retired Educators Association (AREA) and dinners with friends on Friday nights.
Nancy is survived by her three children, Hiawatha DeWayne Daugherty of Corinth, Texas, Venita Nan (Daugherty) Robertson of Anna, Texas, and Dana Gayle (Daugherty) McGowan and son-in-law, Sam McGowan of Anna, Texas.
Known as “MamaD,” she had five grandchildren: Tru Preston Robertson of Allen, Texas; Trent McCoy Robertson and wife, Amber, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Baylie Nicole (Daugherty) Mitchell and husband, Matthew Mitchell, of Northlake, Texas; Mattie Lee (McGowan) Powell and husband, Justin Powell, of College Station, Texas; and Samuel Reid McGowan and wife, Abi, of Denison, Texas.
MamaD was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Alaylah Ruth Danielson; Jackson Lindle Mitchell; Waylon McCoy Robertson; Abbey Paige Mitchell; Iliya Clay Robertson; and Lyle Copen Robertson.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and siblings, Venita (Osborne) Bosley Holiday, Charles Osborne, and Benny Osborne.
Nancy was laid to rest in Weatherford, Texas on March 6, 2025. Since Nancy loved reading and working with children, the family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the AREA Children’s Book Project. Contact Patricia Gear at patricia.gear@yahoo.com for more information.
