Nana Sue Shaw

November 6, 1932 — August 30, 2025

Nana Sue Shaw passed away peacefully in Weatherford, Texas, and went home to Jesus on August 30, 2025 at the age of 92.

Sue was born on November 6, 1932, in Peaster, Texas, to Joe and Ida Abels. She was valedictorian in 1950. She loved playing basketball for Peaster and had a lifelong love of sports and a competitive nature. If you have ever played "42" with her, you knew it was more than a game to her. Sue was awarded "Distinguished Alumni" in 2008. She continued her education at Weatherford College and was proud to be voted as Football Sweetheart, the last team Weatherford College had.

Sue began a 53-year career at M & F Bank, later it became Texas Bank where she retired as a Vice President. Her customers were her friends and she loved working there and had a special relationship with her fellow employees. Sue believed in serving others as she was a member of several community boards and the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce.

Sue also served her church. As a member of North Side Baptist Church for over 66 years, she was involved as church clerk, Sunday school teacher, and in later years, loved being a greeter and meeting new people.

She loved her family fiercely and loved to have big dinners and holiday celebrations. She loved to cook and was known for her special banana puddings.

She was always there to cheer on her kids and grandkids no matter the place or weather.

Special thanks to the staff at Autumn Hills Manor, Cory Kern, P.A., and his staff.

Also, Cody, Mary, and Shanelle who made her last days dignified. Special thanks to Janette Fant and Toni Rhodes for being great companions. Thanks to Suzy Hudson and Interim Hospice for incredible compassion and dignity in her last days.

Preceded in death by her husband, Tom Shaw, Jr.; her parents, Joe and Ida Abels; and brothers, Mac Abels and Horace "Red" Guffie.

Survived by her son, Greg (Kay) Shaw; daughter, Comella (Paul) Porter; grandsons, Blake and Blaine Shaw; granddaughters, Bailey (Junsu) Park, Johanna (David) Dominguez; nephews: Doug (Penny) Shaw, Rocky Wein, and Kevin (Bill) Shaw; nieces: Carol (Jerry) Hatfield and her daughters, Brenda (Rob) Hight, and Brandy (James) Lint; Melanie Weeks, Christi (Dennis) Gissell, Tammy (Tony) Martinez, and Pam (Travis) Beardmore; cousins: Berta Pilkington and Wanda (Wayne) Bryant; and many more extended family and friends.
