Martha Alice Vantine passed away March 25, 2011 in Weatherford, Texas, one month after celebrating her 95th birthday. She was born in Kanesholm, Pennsylvania, on February 20, 1916, to Edward and Alice Magnuson.
Martha and her family moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1955, where for 24 years she worked as a purchasing agent for the VA hospital. While in Amarillo, she was an accomplished seamstress who was active in Sweet Adelines and the United Methodist Women at St. Paul UMC.
She was preceded in death by her 10 brothers and sisters; her daughter, Gwen Kelly; her son, Ken Vantine; and her husband, Melvin Vantine.
She is survived by her son, Lynn Vantine and wife, Sasha of Aurora, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Merilyn Vantine of Weatherford, Texas; niece, Judy Lankford and husband, John of Amarillo; grandchildren, Brent Vantine of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Kirsten Hamilton and husband, Matt of Keller, Texas, Mandye Bowers and husband, David of Ft. Worth, Texas, Brad Vantine and wife, Carol of Weatherford, Texas, Scott Vantine and wife, Stacey of Weatherford, Texas, Sasha Davi and husband, Sal of Plainfield, Illinois; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Martha requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Couts Christian Academy building fund (802 N. Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086) or Children’s Medical Center of Dallas.
