Manley "Pa" Hull

November 4, 1942 — January 1, 2024

Manley “Pa” Hull was born November 4, 1942, to Reverend I. C. and Lenore (Marrs) Hull. He passed away in Weatherford, Texas on January 1, 2024.

Manley was born in Lamesa, Texas and lived in many places across Texas and Louisiana as a pastor’s son. They settled in Weatherford, Texas by the time he was a teenager and he graduated from Weatherford High School. He worked various jobs over the years but retired as an inspector at Lockheed Martin. Manley worked many side jobs with his father and brothers including as an auto-mechanic, roofer, and carpenter. In his retirement he continued his side jobs and spent time watching his grandchildren’s sports and activities.

Manley was a man to look up to, not because of his height and stature, but because of his morals, integrity, and wisdom. Although a man of few words, the ones he spoke were worth hearing. He was rarely straight-forward, almost never with a direct “yes” or “no”, leaving things to be open to your interpretation, but full of sound guidance. He was well known in the family for many phrases. Our favorites are “a few kind words and a little sympathy”; “mind over matter”; “tolerable”; “mercy oh, oh, oh”; “a wise man changes his mind, fool never does”; “a blind hog finds an acorn now and again”; “bless you, my child”; “you can’t make a heel toe the line”; “don’t worry ‘bout the mule just load the wagon”; “take it with a grain of salt”; “you’re driving me distracted!”; “BOO!...how’d I do?”; “ay-yi-yi”.

He loved hard and well. Though he didn’t say the words “I love you”, there was never any doubt how much he loved his family. He showed his love by working hard to provide, always taking care of needs as well as many wants. His pocket was always full to offer whatever was needed. Even when he was unable to work, he’d reach for his pocket ready to pay for whatever. He showed his love with a tug on the arm or a gentle punch to the bicep, a poke in the collar bone or ear (aka ear-itation!), a hand hold or hug.

Manley is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Hull; three children: Mark Hull and wife Cathy; Anita Turner and husband Tim; and Amy Graham and husband Johnny; grandchildren: Alitha Gill and husband Josh; Jacob Jenkins and wife Shelby; Arissa Hull; Joel Hull and fiancé Abby Carroll; Caleb Turner and wife Adaline; Kyle Turner; Will Graham and wife Kassidy; Bethany Graham; twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; brother, Marvin Hull and wife Ruthann; sisters, Ollie Moore and husband Rick, and Mona Moon and husband Gerald; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend I. C. and Lenore Hull; siblings, Linda, James, David, Robert, and Edd Hull; and numerous nieces and nephews.
