Lynda Lou “Mom” Benefield, 87, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026. She had been living with the effects of a stroke in 2022 that left her nonverbal and in need of around-the-clock care. Lynda was surrounded by her loved ones and the devoted caregivers who became like family at the time of her passing.

A lifelong Texan, Lynda was born February 1, 1939, in Fort Worth to Arrie and Mavis Henry. She was raised in Fort Worth and graduated from Paschal High School in 1957. In 1959, she married the love of her life, Leland G. Benefield. Together they built a beautiful life and family, raising their daughters, Lesa and Laura, in Corpus Christi. They later returned to Fort Worth and she eventually settled in Weatherford in 2012.

Lynda enjoyed a varied and successful career throughout her life. She worked at White’s Automotive, where she met her husband, before their moves to Biloxi, Mississippi, Clovis, New Mexico, and Temple, Texas, during his time with the military and Frito-Lay. In 1984, she retired from Reynolds Metals. Not one to stay idle, Lynda and Leland opened a gourmet shop in 1985, purchased a liquor store in 1986, and in 1988 opened Bar Mart in Fort Worth. She later worked for several years at Haltom Jewelers before retiring for good.

Her greatest joy was always her family and community. Lynda was a faithful member of North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford, a member of Daughters of the Nile Rithmah Temple #93, and proudly held a 50-plus-year membership with Handley #617 Order of the Eastern Star. She loved being present in the lives of her granddaughters, faithfully attending their school events, performances, and activities.

Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, A. E. and Mavis Henry, and her beloved husband, Leland G. Benefield. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength that will be cherished by her daughters, Lesa Smith (Trey) of Cleburne and Laura Geyer (Jeff) of Weatherford; granddaughters, Ashley Arce (Marino), Shelby Humphrey (Clint), Emily Geyer, and Kelley Wright (Ethan); and great-grandchildren, Maverick and Madilynn Humphrey.

She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Sue Karemaa (Aadu) and Jim Henry (LouNan); niece, Melanie Jones (Justin); brother-in-law, Laney Benefield (Louise); nephew, Harold Benefield (Mabel); along with many extended family members and the caregivers who lovingly cared for her.

A funeral service will be held on February 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel in Weatherford, Texas. Visitation will take place prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford or to Shriners Hospitals for Children in honor of Lynda’s lifetime of service and compassion.

Mom’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her deep love for family, and the kindness and grace she showed to everyone she met.
