Lawrence Palmerston Wingo, Jr. was born to Lawrence P. Wingo, Sr. and Audra Elizbeth Paine in Weatherford, Texas, on June 3, 1939. He graduated from Weatherford High in 1958 and joined the Army in 1960. Lawrence was in the 82nd Airborne Division until 1963; his time in the 82nd Airborne was his proudest achievement and he always wished he had continued his Army Service. On his return to Weatherford, he joined his father in the Construction Industry. He was exceptionally talented at woodworking and building homes and furniture. Lawrence was a mentor to many young men, guiding them from clueless to good Craftsmen and Carpenters, highly respected by them today. He never met a stranger and was a happy, generous person; he loved having the house filled with family and friends. He was a member of Parker County Sportsmen’s Club, serving as Director and Fishing Chairman from 1977 to 1985. One year, serving as Rattlesnake Hunt Chairman, he cooked and served fried snake all day. He, along with his brother, brother-in-law, and close cousin, won multiple fishing tournaments. Lawrence would go fishing at the drop of a hat regardless of the weather. He was an avid hunter, enjoying the camaraderie and cooking at the hunt camp as much as he enjoyed the hunt. He was an AVID old western movie and War movie fanatic, listening to them at Cinema leveling loudness and watching for hours on end.

Dad was known for "Jr.'s Famous Fluffy Homemade WAFFLES!" and homemade buttermilk biscuits. He loved to cook and bake for us, and we enjoyed the partaking of the treats... the HUGE MESS in the kitchen was dreaded, but worth it!

He was a storyteller of many wild tales, a lot of Bad Dad Jokes. Dad loved laughter and could take a ribbing and give a good ribbing. His sense of humor was priceless.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Ozzie Means; his brother, Dan Ray Wingo; and his granddaughter, Tuesday O’Riley Antonowicz.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie O’Riley Wingo; his daughters, Dondi Horton (Steven) of Granbury, Stephanie Wingo of Holden Beach, North Carolina, and Kristie Denbow (Dan) of Boerne, Texas; also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Miranda (Arlen), Ricky (Kortney), Nikolaus (Taylor), Scott (Chelsea), and Audra (Chris). He leaves behind numerous great grandchildren who were his delight, Riley, Tula, Adalais, Kammi, Lainey, Loralei, Tilley, Cooper, Caraway, Travis, Cash, and Sadie.

Lawrence was baptized as a youth and confirmed into the Lutheran Church in 1981. Serving as trustee, and elder multiple times, he loved Trinity Lutheran Church and designed and built several custom Altar pieces to honor The Lord.

Speaking for his family, we dearly loved our Poppa and although we didn’t want to lose him, we are assured that he closed his eyes to pain and suffering and opened them with His Lord in Heaven.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, October 27, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1500 W. Ball St., Weatherford, Texas, with visitation beginning one hour prior at 1:30 p.m., officiated by Pastor Tim Fraker.
