Karl Wayne Ratzlaff left this earth on September 9, 2010, to be with his Heavenly Parent after a fierce battle with cancer.
Karl was born on July 12, 1933, in Goessel, Kansas, to parents, Dr. Abraham K. and Anna Ratzlaff. After graduating from the University of Colorado, he began his career as a geologist for the federal government. Karl married Dorothy Mae Dutton on June 9th, 1957, in Denver, Colorado. Upon retirement Karl and Dorothy made their home in San Antonio until the time of Dorothy's death. Karl married Lavada Feldman on September 2, 2001, moving to the Zion Hill Community.
Dedicated to serving God, Karl was an active member of Community of Christ in Mineral Wells. He served in many different capacities in his local congregation, but also in the Mission Center. He was currently a member of the Sionito Camping Board. Karl was also a volunteer for Manna Storehouse serving on their board until ill health prevented him from doing so. Karl's other love besides God and family was fishing and found much enjoyment in casting and reeling in a good catch, especially on his annual trips to Florida with his sons.
Karl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; sister, Pat Goering; and sister, Betty Unruh.
Karl is survived by his wife, Lavada; step-brothers, David Sebring of Goessel, Kansas and Robert Ratzlaff of Wichita, Kansas; sons, Mark Ratzlaff and wife, Susan of Woodstock, Maryland, Steve Ratzlaff and wife, Yvette of Roswell, Georgia; daughters, Cathy De Armond and husband, Dennis of La Porte, Texas, Joy Ellis and husband, John of Weatherford, Cindy Greene and husband, Jerry of Greenville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Lauren and Caitlin Ratzlaff, Derek and Andrew Ratzlaff, Ben De Armond, Karla Janssen and husband, Brian, Westan Harden, Bryan and Bethany Greene; great grandson, Liam Janssen; brothers-in-law, Mario Goering of Wichita, Kansas, Bob Wolfenberger of Weatherford, Texas; sister-in-law, Margaret Dutton of Galveston, Texas; and mother-in-law, Alta Wolfenberger of Weatherford, Texas.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 12th, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., at Central Christian Church, 1602 S. Main St., Weatherford. A time of visitation will follow service at the Zion Hill Community Center.
