Jose Guadalupe (Lupe) Leon Almanza

April 20, 1953 — February 15, 2024

Jose Guadalupe (Lupe) Leon Almanza passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on February 15, 2024.

Lupe was born in Guanajuato, Mexico as the oldest of nine children born to Jose Jesus Leon and Ana Almanza. Lupe met Carolina Mendoza, the love of his life in 1970 at the age of 17.

They married December 17, 1971, and began a 52-year journey together that produced six kids (four girls, two boys).

In 1978, Lupe moved to the United States with the hope of providing a better life for his family. Lupe eventually settled down in Weatherford, Texas and began working at Iron Skillet, where he worked hard and dutifully for over 40 years.

He was reunited with his family when he was able to bring them to Weatherford, Texas in 1992.

After two strokes and a devastating dementia diagnosis in 2021, Lupe was cared for at home by his amazing wife; daughter, Gabriela; and three of his grandchildren.

He loved to cook, listen to music, scratch lottery tickets, and spend time with his grandchildren. Lupe accomplished his dream to provide a better life for his family, and for him we are forever grateful.

Lupe is survived by his loving wife, Carolina; four daughters, Rosa (Eduardo) Marin, Ana (Noel) Padilla, Gabriela Leon, and Diana (Jacob) Sigman; sons, Jesus Leon and Guadalupe Leon; grandchildren, Adrian and Alyssa Hernandez, Kylie Gomez, Kailyn Sigman, Karina and Alex Marin, Osvaldo, Bryan, and Noel (Sierra) Padilla, Ivan, Jose, and Natalie (Josh) Aguilar, Miguel and Israel Leon, Adam Robles, and Jesus and Carolina Leon; nine great-grandchildren; five brothers; three sisters; six brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and sixty-seven nieces and nephews.

Lupe was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Jesus Leon and Ana Almanza; father-in-law, Asuncion Mendoza; granddaughter, Alexandra E. Hernandez; nephew, Alberto Leon, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Alfredo Mendoza.

Our family would like to give special thanks to HSC's Center for Older Adults in Fort Worth, for the wonderful care he received. And special thanks to the nurses, aides, and other staff at Amedisys Hospice for helping make Lupe comfortable in his final weeks.

Donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
