John Frelan Winters

October 23, 1957 — January 26, 2026

John Frelan Winters, 68, of Weatherford, Texas, went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2026.

John was the proud son of Max and Nina Winters, born in Abilene, Texas, in 1957. He spent most of his childhood in Abilene, where he cherished memories of helping at the full‑service automotive station his father operated. The family, including John’s four siblings, later settled in Euless, Texas, where he attended Trinity High School. At the young age of 16, John began his family and went on to successfully raise three children with Linda Nations.

During his first six years as a father, John worked multiple jobs—doing whatever it took to provide for his family and keep food on the table. At age 23, after earning his GED, he was hired by General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin. Over the course of nearly 40 years, John advanced from frontline supervisor to production engineer and ultimately to multi‑function manufacturing manager. He received numerous accolades, awards, and recognitions throughout his career, particularly for his leadership and dedication to the F‑16 program.

It was at Lockheed that John met his soulmate and the love of his life, Ellen Fowler. They shared more than 26 wonderful years together, enjoying hunting, fishing, motorcycling, and—above all—time spent with their grandchildren and great‑grandchildren. John was deeply respected in his community and faithfully served as a Deacon at Harmony Fellowship Baptist Church.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Nina Winters; his brother, Gary Winters; and his great‑granddaughter, Mayley Jay Staley.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Ellen Winters, who lovingly cared for him throughout their life together. He is also survived by his sons, John and wife, Sonya Winters of Pearsall, and Justin and wife, Christina Winters of Weatherford; his daughter, Tiffany and husband, Chip White of Blue Ridge; his step‑daughters, LaReesea and husband, Bradley North of Chico, and Tina and husband, Michael Smith of Keller; and his step‑son, Jeff and wife, Kristen Pittman of Sunset. He is also survived by his brother, Lee and wife, Rita Winters of Springtown; and his sisters, Crystal Delk of Rocky, Oklahoma, and Maxine and husband, Eric Higginbotham of Northlake. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
