John Tomerlin

  John Tomerlin, born January 15, 1940, to TB and Christine Tomerlin, and passed away June 9, 2026. His health started declining rapidly over the past year. 

  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wanda Davis of Millsap; and his brother, Otis of Garner. 

  John is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Carolyn Shuffler; brother, Tommy of Abilene; daughter, Kathy Funderburg of Cool; and two sons, Terry of Garner and Mike of San Antonio; also, grandchildren, Shannon Jones of Cool, Chris Green of Weatherford, Matt and Andrew Tomerlin of Mineral Wells, Seth Tomerlin of Artesia, New Mexico, and Kurt Tomerlin of Iowa; as well as 12 great grandchildren.

  John loved working on and driving hot rods as a teenager and started working on helicopters at Southern Airways.

  He soon hired on with Bell Helicopter where he remained for 36 years as a technical representative and later as an instructor. During his time there he traveled all over the world. He retired from Bell in 2002.

  John's favorite pastime was watching his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids playing sports. While working out of town it was common for him to drive all night long to get home in time to see a game. In his younger years he loved hunting and fishing, occasionally even legally.

  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Holders Chapel Cemetery, in Weatherford, Texas.
