John Gerard Kowalak, age 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2026. Born on May 23, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, to John Paul Kowalak and Jacqueline Gerard Kowalak, he touched many lives throughout his years.
John was a devoted member of North Side Baptist Church and worked as a butcher for local grocery stores for 30 years, where he was known for his steady work ethic and kind nature. In his free time, he enjoyed reading and found great fulfillment in helping others. He had a special compassion for animals and dedicated much of his time to working with a local rescue group, where he and his wife lovingly fostered puppies for over six years. Their home was dubbed "Puppy Central."
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Debbie Kowalak of Weatherford, Texas; his brother, Bill Kowalak and wife Laurie of Midland, Michigan; his niece, Amy Kowalak and her son Ansel of Traverse City, Michigan; and his cherished dogs, Asia, Baylor, and Ryelee.
Though no services are planned at this time, John’s memory will be held close by all who knew and loved him.
