Jerry Leonard McCarty, age 75, passed from this life on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 9:24 a.m.
Jerry was born September 25, 1950, in Weatherford, Texas, to Virgil McCarty and Willie Dee (Hudson) McCarty. Jerry attended and graduated from Millsap High School in 1969. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, paw-paw, and friend. Jerry lived a life marked by faith and had a deep love for his family and friends.
Prior to his retirement, Jerry worked as an engraver and was a talented woodworker. His work not only reflected his skill but the love he had for creating beautiful, carefully crafted, sentimental pieces and sharing his work with the ones he loved. But honestly, he was a jack-of-all-trades, and there was nothing he could not fix or build, whether it was his 56’ Chevy or the house he and Sharon spent the entirety of their marriage in. He had the strongest work ethic all the way up until he passed; there wasn’t a thing that man could not do.
As a member of the Church of Christ, Jerry’s faith was an important part of his life and guided him throughout the years.
Jerry loved to spend his free time outdoors, tending to his garden, watching the early morning sunrises while his birds chirped in the backyard. Not a day went by where Jerry wasn’t watching an old western; he also loved listening to Bluegrass music and even playing back in the day. In his younger days, he would spend endless late nights hunting with some of his closest friends. But what Jerry loved the most was the time spent with loved ones, whether he was sharing stories from his childhood or passing his knowledge down to his grandchildren. He was always there for his family, offering his support, whether they needed a helping hand or a listening ear, and will be remembered for his kind heart and quiet strength.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sharon McCarty, of Garner, Texas; daughters, Krissa Brewer and husband, Chris, of Canyon, Texas, and Nikki Runyon and husband, Patrick, of San Tan Valley, Arizona; six adored grandchildren, Alex, Austin, Weston, Jake, Lauren, and Lilly; mother, Willie McCarty, of Garner, Texas; sister, Carol Rice, of Lubbock, Texas; and brother, Terry McCarty, of Garner, Texas.
