Jeanette Louise Massey

January 28, 1948 — June 3, 2025

Weatherford

Jeanette Louise Massey, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away on June 3, 2025, at the age of 77. Jeanette prioritized her family above all else, as she was a loving and caring wife, mother, and Gramma.

In 1961, at age 13, Jeanette’s life changed forever, when a handsome paperboy named Jack rode his bike to her porch to deliver the newspaper. On August 30, 1969, she married Jack, and they loved and cherished each other every day until Jack’s death in 2021. Jack and Jeanette had three children, and Jeanette devoted herself to being an exceptional mother, ensuring that they were loved, provided for, entertained, and educated. Jeanette was the heart of the family, as she forged unbreakable bonds, fostered emotional intelligence, and organized their lives to ensure each member was happy, healthy, and cared for. When their children grew up and were married, Jeanette welcomed their spouses and treated them as her own children. Jeanette became a Gramma to four amazing grandsons and one beautiful granddaughter, and she lived for those kids just the same as her own children. Jeanette loved nothing more than attending her grandson’s baseball and football games, where she cheered as loudly as she could, and may have been known to criticize a few referees. She could also be found taking her younger grandsons for scooter rides around the neighborhood and encouraging their curiosity and teaching them about the world while engaging them in a variety of creative crafting activities.

Jeanette enjoyed writing, singing, playing games with her family, and every sort of crafting imaginable. She created emotionally moving scrapbook pages and hand-crafted Christmas ornaments for her family, who she supported by selling hand-painted T-shirts and beautiful wood-worked home décor, spending hours in the garage with her power tools. Jeanette was honest and witty, quick with a smile, and the embodiment of integrity, kindness, and faith. Jeanette served faithfully in many capacities in her church congregations, teaching, singing, organizing, and everything else in between. Her love for the Lord was evident and reflected in every aspect of her life. Jeanette never failed to offer assistance or guidance to anyone who needed it. She always hated math, even though she was pretty good at it.

Jeanette worked at many jobs over the course of her life. She picked cotton, delivered newspapers, managed oil fields, wrote technical manuals, and spent years in the benefits department of an airline, where she would be the first to tell you it was just for the flying privileges. Jeanette attended Sam Houston State University on a music scholarship. Jeanette encouraged her children and grandchildren to understand the value of education and to read continually, which they do. Jeanette was a mother and a teacher, who constantly shared her wisdom and guidance with her own children and grandchildren, as well as the children of her friends and family.

Jeanette was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Jack Carson Massey, Jr.

Jeanette is survived by her three children and their spouses: Melanie and Brian Finney, Jeff and Annie Massey, and Zack and Jennifer Massey, along with her five incredible grandchildren: Jackson, Carson, Jack, Reid, and Sadie. Jeanette is also survived by an extended family of nieces, Martha, Marian, and Dottie, their children and grandchildren, as well as her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beverly and George Grichuk, along with their children and grandchildren.
