From her beginnings in Déville-lès-Rouen, Normandy, to the loving family she built in Texas, Janine's life was one of quiet grace.
With deep love and cherished remembrance, we celebrate the life of Janine Madeleine Thomas, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2026, in Weatherford, Texas, at the age of 91.
Janine was born on October 28, 1934, in Déville-lès-Rouen, Normandy, to François Georges Thomas and Raymonde (Tétrel) Thomas. Raised in the beautiful French countryside, she carried throughout her life the values of resilience and devotion to family that shaped her from an early age.
A lifelong learner, Janine earned her master's degree and built a distinguished career as an aeronautical engineer. Gifted both academically and creatively, she had the heart of a teacher. She taught college algebra at Tarrant County College and Texas Christian University and found great joy in teaching children to play musical instruments.
Janine believed in giving back to her community. She was an active member of the Lions Club and Rotary Club and generously volunteered at the Botanical Gardens. She found peace and happiness in the outdoors, whether training for and competing in a triathlon, tending her garden, watching birds, or sitting on the porch enjoying the sight of deer passing by. Her Faith was an important part of her life. She was a member of Unity Church for 40 years. She loved singing in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother, George Thomas.
Janine is survived by her loving children, Caroline Kempton and her husband, Jim, Beth Garcia, and James Hilt and his wife, Dawn; her dear sister, Francoise Gasser; seven cherished grandchildren; seven treasured great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close.
A memorial service celebrating Janine's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebrate a life well lived.
From her beginnings in Déville-lès-Rouen, Normandy, to the loving family she built in Texas, Janine's life was one of quiet grace. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
