Janie F. Barbee

August 14, 1930 — December 7, 2023

Janie F. Barbee met her Lord and Savior face-to-face on December 7, 2023, at age 93. She was born August 14, 1930, in Hardeman County, Texas to John West and Dovie (Stallings) West.

Her early schooling was in Chillicothe, Texas, where she was voted class favorite her senior year. Janie attended Hardin Simmons University, where she met her first husband, Leroy Barbee, to whom she was married for 59 years prior to his passing. She later attended Weatherford College where she received her Associates degree.

Janie was a longtime member of North Side Baptist Church and Chapel Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Country Crossroads Extension Club, in Parker County, where in her 37-year membership she received a number of awards. Janie was associated with Barbee Realty for many years, where she supported the family business.

Janie was preceded in death by her first husband, Leroy Barbee; daughter, Tonya Browning; infant granddaughter, Rachel Baker; parents John and Dovie West; siblings: three brothers, Farris West; twin Jesse West; infant Harlen; sister, Mary Adams; and son-in-law, Jimmy Don Chambless.

Janie was a loving wife to her surviving husband, Leonard A. Peters; mother to Pam Chambless; she was affectionately known as "Mama J" to her granddaughters and their spouses, Jennifer and Brandon Pryor, and Jill and Brian Manning, and "GiGi," to her great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Kinley, and Landry Pryor, and Jack and Meri Manning; Janie is also survived by her bonus family, Royce, Tammy, and Mackenzie Peters; the Chambless family; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Her family wishes to extend special thanks to Clear Path Home Care and Valor Hospice for their loving care of Janie during her final months.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 18, 2023, at North Side Baptist Church, in Weatherford, Texas, officiated by Pastor Van Houser.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Country Crossroads EEA, 604 North Main St, Weatherford, Texas 76086.
