Janice Hope Johnson, lovingly known to many as Grandma Jan, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the age of 81. Her journey began on January 2, 1945, in Abilene, Texas, where she was born to Dee Gipson and Carrie (Baker) Gipson. From the very beginning, Janice carried a quiet strength that would shape the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
A devoted homemaker, Janice was truly the heart of her family. Her home was a place of warmth and unwavering love. She poured herself into her family with a grace that made even the simplest moments feel special.
As a dedicated member of Beulah Baptist Church, Janice was cherished by her church family and community. She lived her faith with genuine kindness toward others.
Janice found joy in the beauty of the outdoors. Whether tending to her garden or casting a line while fishing, she embraced peace found in nature. These quiet moments were her sanctuary, and they reflected the calm, nurturing presence she brought into the world.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dee and Carrie Gipson, and her siblings Garland, Pauline, and Gary Gipson.
Janice leaves behind a legacy of love through her husband, Larry Johnson of Mineral Wells, Texas; her daughters, Lisa Rittenbury (husband, Jammie) of Perrin, Texas, and April Heinecke (husband, Matthew) of White Settlement, Texas; her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her numerous extended grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored deeply. She is also survived by her sister, Celeta Joy Hemley, and her brother, Barry Gipson (wife, Cheri).
Though no services are planned at this time, Janice’s absence will be felt profoundly. Her family, extended family, and all who knew her will carry her memory forward - with gratitude for the love she gave so freely and the life she lived so beautifully.
