James "Jim" Goolsby

  Retired Lt. Col. James “Jim” Ryan Goolsby, 89, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away August 9, 2025. Born April 10, 1936, in Warren, Oklahoma, to A.B. and Lorrayne (Portwood) Goolsby, Jim grew up on the family farm before earning his master’s degree from Oklahoma State University. He retired from the U.S. Army 1982 and later enjoyed a distinguished career as an electrical engineer with General Dynamics, retiring from Lockheed Martin.

  In 1970, Jim married Greta Dean, and together they raised two children. A devoted member of South Main Church of Christ, he served as a benevolent deacon. He loved traveling, woodworking, hunting, car repair, and reading, but his greatest joy was time with family.

  Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fred Goolsby; and parents-in-law, Ted and Orpha Dean. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Greta; son, Ryan Goolsby; daughter, Janee Reeder; granddaughters, Juliette and Vivian Reeder; brother, Harrison Goolsby; and nephews, Tommy, Josh, and Brent Goolsby.

  Visitation will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel Stateroom, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Fellowship Hall of South Main Church of Christ, 118 East Oak Street, Weatherford, Texas. Burial will follow: Red Star Cemetery, Leedey, Oklahoma.
