Ila Mae McWhorter

October 15, 1939 — September 22, 2025

Ila Mae (Anderson) McWhorter, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, entered peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the age of 85.

She was born on October 15, 1939, in Brock, Texas, to Homer Jefferson and Hilda Inez (Michou) Anderson. From the beginning, Ila Mae carried with her a gentle spirit and a heart full of love for others.

Devoted to children, she poured her life into teaching at both Brock ISD and Weatherford ISD, shaping countless young lives with patience, kindness, and encouragement. Beyond the classroom, Ila found joy in traveling across the United States, especially in the breathtaking beauty of Maine and Colorado. At home, she was cherished as a phenomenal cook and baker, lovingly preparing pies and cakes that became family treasures. Her late husband, Gordon, often expressed that he had a sweet tooth simply because of her.

Faith was the foundation of Ila’s life. As a member of Brock Baptist Church, and then the First Baptist of Weatherford, she shared her strength, grace, and wisdom not only with her growing family but also with her church and community. Her life was a living testimony of devotion, faithfulness, and love.

She was welcomed into heaven by her husband, Gordon Stanley McWhorter; her parents, Homer and Hilda Anderson; and her granddaughter, Mandi McWhorter.

Those left to carry on her legacy include her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Sharon McWhorter; her son, Roland McWhorter; her grandson and wife, Ryan and Brittney McWhorter; her granddaughter and husband, Nicole and Drew Bailey; and her great-grandchildren, Phoenix and Penelope McWhorter, and Lantana Bailey. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Peggy Phillips; her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Liz Anderson; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

Ila will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her most.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Weatherford, 222 W. Church St., Weatherford, Texas 76086. No visitation is scheduled at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Parker County Center of Hope, honoring Ila’s heart for helping others.
