A Memorial Offered to the Glory of God in Thanksgiving for the Life of Haskell Whiteside, Jr.
The angels carried Haskell Whiteside Jr, 71, away to his heavenly home Wednesday, April 5, 2023, following a long battle with cancer, during which he showed his strong courage, faith, and deep love for family throughout.
He was born October 18, 1951, to Haskell Whiteside, Sr and Luby Mae (Dewitt) Whiteside in Midland, Texas. Haskell grew up in Midland and attended Robert E. Lee High School. After graduation in 1970 he joined the United States Air Force where he served his country including a tour to Vietnam. During his service and the years following his discharge he lived in Sacramento, California, Phoenix, Arizona, and Abilene, Texas. In the 1980’s he returned home to Midland, Texas, where he was a member of Greater St Luke AME Methodist Church. In later years he moved to Weatherford, Texas where he was a member of Prince Memorial CME Church.
After returning to Midland Haskell worked as a Rig inspector in the oilfield for a number of years, but his true calling was his years in healthcare. Haskell always had a smile for his patients and co-workers. His caring ways were a comfort for both the patients and families, and his upbeat personality brought joy to many.
Haskell was the life of the party and never met a stranger. He was very family orientated and loved to BBQ, watch his Dallas Cowboys and enjoy music. He was knowledgeable in gardening and later took up fishing and baking. He had a very warm heart and personality, and being father and grandfather meant the most to him. More than anything he adored his family.
Haskell leaves to cherish his memory: loving partner, Julie Dunagan of Weatherford, Texas; beloved daughters, Ryan Whiteside of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Kiara (KC) Whiteside (Megan) of Las Cruces, New Mexico; step children, Kae Johnson –Lucchini (Jean-Francois) of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Rickie O’Neal of Midland, Texas, Bobby Dunagan (Nicole), Jeri Cazares (Art), and Nicole Duncan (Eric); grandchildren, Keelan Whiteside, Kendall Grier, Kyla Lewis, Hazel McCauley, Alison Dunagan, Alejandria Davila, Taylor O’Neal, Bailey O’Neal, and Ian Flores; great grandchildren, Karter Whiteside and Carson Whiteside; siblings, Diana Hollingsworth (Paul) of Killeen, Texas, Reva Whiteside of Denver, Colorado, Lenora Tryon of Austin, Texas, Elizabeth (Sane) Whiteside of Manor, Texas, Henry Whiteside (Deirdra) of Del Valle, Texas, and Glenn Whiteside of Austin, Texas; and countless other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. He will be greatly missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Clara Whiteside Scott.
The family wishes to offer appreciation and thanks to everyone for the many acts of kindness, prayers, and sympathy. Special Thanks to Solaris Hospice.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023, 3pm, VFW 224 Zion Hill Rd., Weatherford, Texas 76088.
