Grover Gene Akins

Grover Gene Akins, 76, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021, in Weatherford. He was born December 1, 1944, in Abilene, Texas, to L.G. and Mildred Brown Akins. 

Gene owned and operated Gene Akins Trucking Company for 45 years. He was a member of the Pentecostal church as well as a 50 year member of the Olive Branch Masonic Lodge in Brock. Gene served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and remained a proud Navy veteran until his death. He was a very conservative man and will be remembered for being a loving and devoted husband, dad, and grandpa.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Amanda Celeste Akins. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years, Eva Akins; daughter, Rebecca Akins-Wallace and husband, Jimmy; grandsons, Case Wallace and Remington Garza; and siblings, Valena Massingill and Jerry Akins.

Funeral Ceremony 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, with a graveside to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
