Gilbert Loyd Wilkins, age 92, of Poolville, passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of September 16, 2016 at his home in Weatherford.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24 at North Main Church of Christ, Weatherford, Texas. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 p.m., at the Poolville Cemetery Tabernacle.
Loyd was born on the family farm in Poolville, Texas, to James Isaac and Martha Emma Wilkins, on June 22, 1924. He went to school at Poolville. He married his first wife, Mary Lou Carter, on March 26, 1949 in Weatherford. He worked as a farmer and rancher most of his life as well as a full career with Bell Helicopter for over 25 years. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the Army in Europe. Loyd attended the Poolville Church of Christ for his entire life save the war years. He was a past President of the Poolville School Board and the Poolville Cemetery Association.
Loyd was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou Wilkins and daughter, Tontrella Louise Wilkins.
Loyd is survived by his wife, Sue Ella Wilkins; children, Terri Huffhines and husband, Tom, Timothy Wilkins; grandchildren, John Huffhines, Toni Huffhines DeRouen and husband, Cameron; three step-children and multiple step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends.
Loyd was a strong Christian example to all and impacted many lives for the good. Memorials may be given to Foster’s Home for Children of Stephenville, Texas.
