Gabe Thomas “Tom” Vick, Jr.

 The Former Mayor of Weatherford Gabe Thomas “Tom” Vick Jr., a dedicated leader, esteemed attorney, and cornerstone of the Parker County community, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 71, leaving behind a profound legacy of leadership and devotion to his family and community.

 Born February 17, 1955, in Austin, Texas, to Gabe T. Vick, Sr. and Luanne (Johnson) Vick, Tom was part of a family whose roots in Parker County date back to the late 19th century. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work and community service from his father. As a boy, Tom witnessed firsthand the impact a dedicated public servant could have and felt called to follow in his father's footsteps.

 Tom pursued that calling with passion. After earning his undergraduate degree at Austin College (where he played basketball and later received the Distinguished Alumni Award), Tom went on to earn his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 1981. He returned home to Weatherford to practice law alongside his father on the town square. Together, they built a law firm that eventually became Vick Carney Law, operating from the renovated historic opera house directly across from the Parker County Courthouse. Throughout his career, Tom earned statewide acclaim for his dedication to the legal profession. In 2008, his dedication to community service was the catalyst for him leading the largest mobilization of volunteer lawyers in Texas history to assist more than 400 children who had been removed by the State from a religious community near Eldorado, Texas. Over the course of his career, he received a litany of awards and honors, including two State Bar of Texas Presidential Citations for his service. His tireless and relentless commitment to the State Bar of Texas culminated in his service as Chair of the Texas Bar Foundation Board of Trustees and as President of the State Bar of Texas from 2017-2018.

 In 1982, at just 27 years old, Tom was elected Mayor of Weatherford. During his four-year term, he guided the city with wisdom and foresight beyond his years. His administration successfully funded and constructed a new fire station and city hall. His commitment to public service continued well beyond the mayor's office, as he also served faithfully as a trustee for both the Weatherford Independent School District and Weatherford College. His contributions to the community were recognized when he received the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce in 2025.

 Tom will be remembered not simply for the titles he held, but for the integrity and humility with which he served. His love for his hometown, his profession, and his family shaped a life of meaningful service, and his legacy continues through his children and grandchildren.

 Tom is survived by his son, Gabe Thomas Vick III, and wife Bridget, and their two sons Gabe Thomas Vick IV and Harrison Joseph Vick, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Vanessa Lee Lester, and husband Jeremy, and their son Benjamin Noah Lester, of Weatherford, Texas; and two brothers John Randol Vick and wife Janet, and their two children Randol and Kathryn, of North Richland Hills, Texas; and Michael Fredrick Vick and wife Charlene, and their son Brandon, of San Marcos, California. He is also survived by Brock Wendell Widener, whom he loved as a son, and wife Amy, and their two children Georgia and Beau, of Madrid, Spain. 

 A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford, Texas. The service will be viewable by livestream with a link to come.

 Though he will be deeply missed, the mark he left on his family, his profession, and the community he loved will endure for generations to come.
