A Life Well Loved
Freda Ann Petersen, born Freda Ann Brown on October 30, 1943, in Fort Worth, Texas, was the daughter of Fred and Callie Brown (both deceased). She passed away on March 10, 2026, leaving behind a family she had spent a lifetime building.
On April 2, 1973, she married Donald James Petersen in Denton, Texas. Together they put down roots in Weatherford, Texas, where Freda would remain for over 40 years — raising her family, staying close to the people she loved, and making that community home.
Outside the home, she and her lifelong best friend, Lani Bush, ran Heavenly Creations and Crafts — a thrift store that became as much a gathering place as a shop. She worked for many years in management at News American Marketing before retiring. She was a woman who loved to travel, and over the years her adventures carried her to many places — including the mountains of Alaska and the vibrant culture of Taiwan, among others. Each journey reflected her curiosity and her love of life.
At home, Freda enjoyed drawing, painting, playing mahjong, watching her game shows, and staying closely connected to the people she loved.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her only sibling, her sister Barbara (Paul) Belding.

A Few Things We’ll Never Forget …
Freda had a short list of approved foods and a long list of opinions about them. Meat and potatoes were non-negotiable, spaghetti with meat sauce was a personal favorite, and pizza had to have Canadian bacon and pineapple. If you had a problem with that, she didn’t want to hear it. Vegetables, however, were another story entirely. She hated them. No exceptions, no veggies.
And then there was 4 Corners. If you never had the misfortune of sitting across a card table from Freda Petersen, consider yourself lucky — because she would beat you, smile about it, and look entirely too pleased with herself. She was quick, she was sharp, and she played to win every single time. The grandkids never stood a chance.
From Her Family
Freda was not one for grand gestures or flowery words, but she showed up — in her own way, on her own terms — for the people who mattered to her. She was steady, stubborn, and fiercely herself. There was a love in that which ran deeper than most people ever put into words. She leaves behind a family that is better for having had her at its center.
We miss you. We will always remember. We will never forget.
Words of Comfort
Revelation 21: 3 – 4
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death shall be no more,
neither shall there be mourning, nor crying,
nor pain anymore,
for the former things have passed away.”
Freda will be laid to rest at
Dilbeck Cemetery • Peaster, Texas
Arrangements entrusted to Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
