Fern Arlene Townsend, age 91, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. She was born June 16, 1935, in Syracuse, New York, to Rodger Burdick and Caroline (Walter) Burdick.
Fern married the love of her life, Howell, in 1962, and together they shared a life filled with family, friendship, and cherished memories. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who found joy in caring for those she loved. Fern especially enjoyed cooking and baking, bringing the warmth and comfort of her kitchen to family and friends.
Professionally, Fern worked as an Insurance Clerk for Ben E. Keith for 27 years before retiring in 1997. In her later years, she enjoyed attending church at Shepherd’s Valley Cowboy Church in Alvarado, Texas. She had a special appreciation for the beauty of creation and was fascinated by glorious photographs of the sky. Fern also treasured time spent with friends, especially bowling and playing dominoes.
Fern was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howell Townsend, in 2010; her parents, Rodger and Caroline Burdick; and her brother, Robert “Bob” Burdick.
She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory forward: her daughter, Pamela Simpson and her husband, Baxter; grandchildren, Donyel Simpson, Stephanie Simpson-Potter, and Travis Hal Simpson; great-grandchildren, Callie Simpson-Potter and Collin Simpson-Potter; great-great-grandson, Dallas Potter; and her sisters, Barbara Chamberlain and husband, J.R., and Beverly Wipert and husband, Larry.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Annetta Cemetery in Annetta, Texas.
Fern leaves behind a legacy of love, family, friendship, and a life well lived. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
