Evelyn Jeanette Mathis, born September 2, 1931, in Clovis, New Mexico, passed away on December 4, 2025, in Weatherford, Texas. Evelyn devoted many years of her life to public service, working as a legislative assistant for the State of Nevada in both the Budget Division and the Department of Taxation. Her diligence and professionalism were deeply appreciated by those she worked alongside.
Beyond her career, Evelyn’s life was enriched by her many interests and creative passions. An active member of the Quilter's Guild of Parker County, she delighted in the art of quilting, where her talent and imagination shone. She also found great joy in reading, crocheting, and knitting - pastimes that brought her comfort and offered meaningful expression throughout her life.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Mathis; her daughter, Kathryn A. Lathrop; sons-in-law, Larry Kunter, Larry Lathrop and Jack David Wolfsen; parents, Archie B. Couch and Alice E. (Keel) Couch; sister, Nina Winters; and brother, Truett Couch.
She leaves behind a legacy of creativity and steadfast love. Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Yvonne Wolfsen and Marsha Corlley, both of Weatherford, Texas; her son, Charles W. Mathis, Jr. and wife, Donna, of Springtown, Texas; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Benetta Williams of San Angelo, Texas, and Debra Booth and husband, Stephen, of Garland, Texas.
A memorial service to honor her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas.
Evelyn will be fondly remembered for her warm heart, creative spirit, and the lasting impact she made on her family, friends, and community.
