Ethel Irene Melendy earned her angel wings and was called home by her heavenly father December 27, 2025. She was born August 31,1946 to Edward and MayDelle Jones. She was preceded in death by husband Douglas Melendy, father Ed Jones, mother MayDelle Jones and granddaughter Marissa Nicole Flores.
She is survived by her brothers Edward Jones Jr., Wilbur Jones and sister Nola Crawford. She left a legacy of family and is survived by daughters Andrea Kim, Dannette Dawn, and Chandra Lynn. In addition, she has grandchildren Crista, Edward, Mikayla, Sara, Jordan, and Ethan. Her family brought her endless love and happiness.
Love and caring were something that permeated her life in all that she did and all who came in contact with her. She loved unconditionally and gave her all to those she encountered, but especially loved her family and friends. She lived life fully and had a great sense of service and stewardship.
Born in Quanah, Texas, she grew up in Amarillo, Texas and she graduated from Amarillo High school . From there she attended Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse in 1966. Ethel started out her career at Northwest Texas Hospital. During this time, she met a handsome young man named Douglas, who would become the love of her life. They soon married and started a family. She worked for many years at Dr. Hand’s office. It's there that they had three precious baby girls and a home filled with love and laughter. In 1989 they moved to College Station where she worked at the hospital Quack Shack.
Doug and Ethel were blessed with three daughters, Andrea, Danette, and Chandra. The girls were raised fiercely independent and they developed the same love of service and caring for all.
Ethel Irene was a woman of faith and her love of God showed in her love for her fellow man. She was a devout member of the Church of Christ and participated in their fellowship her whole life. Doug and Ethel raised their daughters in the church and were tireless chaperones, whether it was supporting school field trips, being band parents, or going every Easter to support LTC (Leadership for Christ).
Ethel was quick with a smile, had a heart as big as Texas, and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Her love for her family was fierce and her compassion was unmatched. Ethel will be missed by her friends and especially her large extended family. We are all happy and blessed to have had her in our lives
Her life will be honored on Thursday, January 29, 2026, during a funeral service set to take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Western Hills Church of Christ, located at 8800 Chapin Rd, Fort Worth, Texas 76116.
