Etha Jewell Overton

  Etha Jewell Overton, 81, went to live with her heavenly father for eternity on Monday, January 8, 2024. She was born May 26, 1942, to Hervy and Edith Oliver in Prairie County, Arkansas. Etha graduated from Big Spring High School and then graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from San Angelo State University after she started her family. She taught in the Big Spring school district for a short time before moving to Weatherford in 1972. In Weatherford she did bookkeeping for several businesses. Etha practiced her Christian faith by teaching Sunday school and children's training classes in several churches, and also served as a pianist or organist.

  Etha is survived by her husband of 32 years, Samuel H. Overton; two sons, Robert Blankenship of Arlington, Texas and Billy Blankenship of Santo, Texas; three stepdaughters, Debra Abbot of Joshua, Texas, Carla Holman of Connecticut, and Roma Adkins of Weatherford, Texas. She is also survived by one stepson, Samuel Overton III of Fort Worth and one step stepdaughter, Caprina Overton of Florida, by her present husband. Additional survivors include two sisters, Margaret Scruggs of Hempstead, Texas and Mary Reimer of Weatherford, Texas. Etha had eight grandsons; four granddaughters; eleven great grandchildren; and a host of friends and relatives.

  Etha had two husbands who preceded her in death, as well as her parents and some siblings.

  The visitation is from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2024, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086.

  A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024, also at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, with burial at Annetta Cemetery, 2667 W FM 5, Annetta, Texas 76008.
