Erna Lea Young

  Erna Lea Young, age 93, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026. She was born July 24, 1933, in Dennis, Texas, to Ernie and Fronie Smethers. She graduated from Brock High School in 1951 and attended Texas Business College. Erna Lea worked for the Texas Departments of Transportation for 40 years. She was a Baptist by faith. Erna Lea served as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Johnson Cemetery Association for 50 years.

  Erna Lea was preceded in death by her parents; husband, E. E. Young; and brother, Tonnie Smethers.

  Erna Lea is survived by her daughter, Shelia McLaughlin and husband, Paul of Brock, Texas; son, Woody Young of Springtown, Texas; grandchildren, Ryan McLaughlin, Jill Mayberry and husband, Hunter, Kate Parker and husband, Trey, Richard Young and wife, Julia, and Erica Hill and husband, Drew; and great-grandchildren, Morgan Mayberry, Lucas Mayberry, Barrett Young, Allie Young, Jenna Young, Jolee Young, Cade Hill, Colter Hill, and was anticipating her 9th great grandchild in October.

  Burial in Johnson Cemetery in Dennis, Texas.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to an animal shelter, Johnson Cemetery, or AlēvCare Hospice.
