Dorothy Jean Wilson

Dorothy Jean Wilson was born on March 25, 1937, at Groom, Texas, the daughter of Gilbert W. Wilson and Annie C. Black. Dorothy means gift of God, and she was named in honor of Dorothy Manning, the wife of the family’s pastor.

She passed away October 6, 2023, in Santo, Texas, at the age of 86, with her family. Her memorial visitation will be October 15, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, Weatherford, Texas. Interment was at Laverne Cemetery, Laverne, Oklahoma.

Dorothy had one brother, Wendell, the original WWW (Wendel William Wilson) and sister, Charlene, whom she always felt responsible to look after in life. Dorothy’s family worked for Rock Island Railway in Texas. The railroad moved all their belongings in a box car, including their cow, to Meade, Kansas. By the age of 12, it was discovered she could play piano by ear and transpose keys. She met her future husband C.R. Wilson at a youth rally where she was the only one skilled enough to play the music to accompany his solo.

On their first date, C.R. asked Dorothy to marry him. They would later marry and leave immediately for traveling gospel camp meetings in New Mexico. After a year on the road, they were called to be pastors at Bethel Community Church in Magnolia, Arkansas. During the time while serving there, children Brenda and Terry were born. Next, they would go to Apostolic Faith Mission in Cheney, Kansas. She and C.R. always sang specials together in church.

While in between churches, they stayed in Meade, Kansas, and began a construction business. Their last residence was in Liberal, Kansas.

Dorothy possessed an in-depth knowledge of supplements and organic herbs thirty years ago before it was in style. She was also a leader in essential oil sales forty years ago. Everyone was blessed by being “doctored” by her.

Until the last years, Dorothy could always be found at the piano in church “every time the doors were open.”

After the passing of her husband, she was content to spend her time in their home. She was a strong willed and determined person whose English roots accounted for the bulldog spirit. Her last year was spent in Texas where she was just content for her needs to be met. It was only because of illness that she could not return home. She always knew God would provide.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, C.R.; son, Terry Wilson; parents; brother, Wendell; and sister, Charlene. She is survived by daughter, Brenda and husband, Mark Tackett, Santo, Texas; and daughter-in-law, Deborah Wilson, Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Shawna Stewart (Dana) of Tyler, Texas, Jennifer (Ben) of Friendswood, Texas, Melissa (Luke) Mezger of Santo, Texas, Jeremy (Brittany) of Mansfield, Texas, Tara (Rob) Penny of Weatherford, Texas, Kimberly (Joe) Huntsville, Texas, Andrew (Ashton) of Annetta, Texas, Taylor Stewart (Karina) of Tyler, Texas, Brandon of Ft Lauderdale, Florida, and Tori (Drew) of Willow Park, Texas; great grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan and Madeline Stewart, Luke, Colin, Anna and Joshua Speer, Bailey, Blake, Blair and Beau Mezger, Jace, Landon, and Lilly Wilson, Colt and Caroline Penny, Jameson and Jeremiah Shilling, Trout, Clay and Mary Tackett, Rylan Wilson, and Tripp Gillen; great great grandchildren, Elijah Meister and Jonah Lopez; and many nieces and nephews.
