Dorothy was born on December 16, 1941, in Weatherford, Texas, to D.L. and Ruth Baker. She died on October 5, 2026, at Oakwood Place in Athens, Texas, at age 84, after a long battle with brain cancer.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, D.L. and Ruth Baker; her daughter, Dawn Delynn Davis; her brother, David Baker; her grandson, Dalton Davis; and her brother-in-law, Jerry Avery.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Dwayne Davis (Jessica), of Athens, Texas, along with five grandsons: Lance Funkhouser (Molly) and great-granddaughters, Alex Elle and Parker Jo; Michael Alex Fernandez (Kimberly); Duncan Davis; Daxton Davis; and Drew Davis. She is also survived by her niece, Joni Avery Hires (Gary), of Midland, Texas; her nephew, Quin Baker, of Jacksonville, Florida; and her sisters-in-law, Johnnie Lou Avery Boyd (Bruce), of Midland, Texas, and Lind Baker, of Highland Park, Texas. Many cousins also hold cherished memories of her.
Dorothy graduated from Weatherford High School, the University of North Texas, and Texas Woman's University. She served as President of the North Texas Food Service Association. Dorothy dedicated her professional life to nourishing others. She contributed her talents to the University of North Texas and Lewisville Memorial Hospital. Still, her true calling, her greatest legacy, was her role as the Food Service Director for Lewisville ISD for over 25 years. She oversaw the district's growth, expanding from 9 schools to over 60 by the time of her retirement. Her dedication and expertise led her to become the president of the Texas School Food Service Association, a testament to her passion and leadership.
At Dorothy's request, a party of life will be held at 3’P’s in a Vine on Saturday, October 24, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. She asked attendees to refrain from wearing black. A graveside service will follow at East Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas, on October 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Oakwood Place of Athens, Trinity Clinic of Athens, and Hospice Plus of Athens for their love and care for Ms. Davis.
