Donnie was born March 1, 1947 to Hershel and Joy Scarbrough. She married Mike B. Johnston on September 2, 1967, in Lubbock. Together they had two daughters, Michelle and Christy, and a son, Michael. Donnie enjoyed encouraging others, loving people and her family. Her hobbies included raking and burning leaves and traveling. She will affectionately be remembered as being a loving wife, mother, “Honey,” and friend.
In addition to her parents, Donnie was preceded in death by her husband, Mike, and her son, Michael.
Donnie is survived by her daughters, Christy and Brian Corr of Allen, and Michelle and Mark Pittard of Corinth; grandchildren, Isabella and Cooper Corr, and Michael, Mavrick and Major Pittard; brother, Calvin and Jody Scarbrough of Dibol; and many aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Donnie grew up, mostly, in Lufkin with loving parents and a brother to lead the way. She graduated from Lufkin High School in 1965. She attended Texas Tech in Lubbock where she met and quickly fell in love with Mike. In the early 70’s they moved to Fort Worth, where she started a 20-year career in Tupperware. She said her greatest career accomplishment was working with Mike and her kids, sharing a good work ethic with her family. After retiring from Tupperware in 1996, she and Mike moved to the Dallas area to be close to their girls. Donnie started a second career in Avon in 2008 where she spent the next five years building leaders, encouraging others to reach their goals and simply loving people.
In recent years she spent most of her time with her girls and grandchildren, traveling the world, and helping others.
Donnie is probably best known for her travels. In 2013, she traveled around the world. When people would say “I can’t believe you are going around the world by yourself, she would reply, “I’m not going by myself. I’ll have Jesus with me.” That is how she lived her life, as the hands and feet of Jesus.
Donnie had asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Michael Dale Johnston Scholarship at Texarkana Public Schools Foundation, 4241 Summerhill Road, Texarkana, Texas 75503
