David P. Murray, age 82, passed from this life on Thursday, June 26, 2025. He was born on September 9, 1942, in Flint, Michigan, to Oran and Irene Murray.
Affectionately known as "Murray" to his friends, he graduated from Santa Ana High School in Santa Ana, California, and was a proud member of DeMolay International, an organization known for helping young men develop leadership skills and character. As a youth, David was an avid bowler and participated in a local bowling league.
He married the love of his life, Rita Kay Summa, on July 21, 1963, and together they had two sons, Jim and Scott.
David had a passion for do-it-yourself home repair and electrical projects. In the 1970s, he owned D & R Hardware in El Cajon, California. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he worked as an electrical wholesale salesman for ACME Electric in Culver City, where he was frequently recognized as Salesman of the Year and Vendor of the Year by several clients. He was known for saying, “You can do anything you put your mind to.”
In the mid-1990s, David and Rita moved to Saluda, South Carolina, where they lived until 2009 alongside his mother, Irene, and sister, Joanie. There, they purchased land and built their homes side by side.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Rita Murray, in March 2025; his parents, Oran and Irene Murray; and his sisters, Virginia Paul and Joanie Hall.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Jody Murray of Poolville, Texas, and Scott and Chantel Murray of Boulder Creek, California. He also leaves behind four adored grandchildren, Kaitlyn DeLuca and her husband, Mike; Cassidy Murray; Tanner Murray; and London Murray.
David was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his family. No services are scheduled at this time.
