Darlene Gist

  Darlene Gist, age 86, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. She was born on July 9, 1939, in Olney, Texas, to Johny Elkins and Doris (Wells) Elkins.

  A woman of determination, Darlene dedicated her life to education, faith, and family. After attending Abilene Christian College, she earned her Master’s degree in Education and went on to inspire countless students as a high school English teacher. Her love for learning left a lasting mark on those she taught.

  A devoted member of South Main Church of Christ, Darlene also helped shape her community through service and leadership. She served on the original board of directors at Weatherford Christian School, was an active member of the Parker County Republican Women, and later volunteered her time with the Center of Hope.

  Darlene embraced life with enthusiasm. She loved the outdoors and found joy in horseback riding, tennis, and flying - earning her private pilot’s license and sharing many memorable flights with her sons and grandson.

  Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Johny and Doris Elkins.

  She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Chad and Antoinette Gist of Keller, Texas, and Brett and Michelle Gist of Poolville, Texas; along with six treasured grandchildren, Cody, Cade (wife, Elle), Preston, Izabella, Alexandra, and Sophia Gist.

  A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at South Main Church of Christ in Weatherford, Texas.
