Daniel William Tierney, age 85, LTC US Army Ret., passed away Thursday, July 25, 2008. He was born on September 3, 1922, in Port Arthur, Texas. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served four years in the Pacific during WWII as an aerial recon photographer. He then joined the United States Army and was in the Army Security Agency and earned the Legion of Merit and numerous other awards and decorations and retired with 30 years of distinguished service.
In civilian life, he was a real estate agent in Weatherford, Texas. He was a man of tremendous integrity and unbending character. His compassionate nature was displayed through his love of the many cats and dogs he rescued that either came to be members of his own family, or to be adopted by others. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His passing has left a void in the lives of those who loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cora Virginia Tierney; daughter, Phyllis Jean Ball and her husband, David Ball; grandchildren: Allyson Michelle Ball, David Lowry Young, Jennifer Noelle Young; and great-grandsons: Brandon Lynn Taylor, and Nathan Daniel Taylor.
Memorial: Humane Society of Fort Worth, Texas at 1840 East Lancaster Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76103. Graveside Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m., on Friday August 1, 2008, at the DFW National Cemetery.
