Charlotte L. Nelson

July 15, 1928 — January 1, 2026

Charlotte L. Nelson, a long-time resident of Willow Park, died on January 1, 2026, from complications related to a fall in June.

Charlotte was born in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1928, the middle child and only girl in a family of seven children. Her parents, Richard and Almira Schmidt, operated a commercial nursery. Growing up, she helped care for her brothers, prepared meals, and worked in her parents’ greenhouse.

She married Corvan Nelson, and his career as a claims adjuster took them to several places, including Minneapolis, Marshall, Minnesota, and finally to Texas in 1972. They moved to Willow Park in 1984. Charlotte and Corvan were married for more than 50 years and were devoted to each other and to their two sons, Gary and Brian. All three men were military veterans, and Charlotte was visibly proud of their service.

In her later years, Charlotte volunteered as a docent at Weatherford Regional Hospital (now Medical City Weatherford). A highlight of those years was a cruise to Alaska with fellow docents, some of whom became long-time friends, even celebrating her 90th birthday together.

Charlotte is survived by her brother, Bill Schmidt and his wife, Bonnie, of Fitchburg, Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Libby Afflerbach of Willow Park.

Charlotte will be interred at Fort Snelling National Military Cemetery in Minnesota, alongside her husband, Corvan, and sons, Gary and Brian. A private service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to Three Oaks Hospice, 102 Houston Ave., Suite 201, Weatherford, Texas (online at threeoakshospice.com), or to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be shared with Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel in Weatherford. (https://www.galbreaithpickard.com/)
