Carol Gene Sportsman

  Carol Gene Sportsman, age 78, of Weatherford, died early Saturday morning, July 31, 2010, in a local nursing facility. Born October 5, 1931, in Marceline, Missouri, a resident of Weatherford for several years. Carol was a retired automobile mechanic, retired from Fort Worth Independent School District and a member of the Bethesda Methodist Church. He also retired as Gunnery Sgt. From the U. S. Marine Corps, where he served in Korea and Vietnam “Semper Fidelas” and he received the outstanding service award.  

  Survivors include his daughter, Anita Hankins of Fort Worth; two brothers, Gail Sportsman of Bedford and Jerry Sportsman of Weatherford; two grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.  

  Graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at the DFW National Cemetery. Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., August 3, 2010, at the funeral home.
