Billie June Cox, affectionately known as BJ, departed peacefully from this life on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the age of 89.
BJ was born on June 20, 1936, in Navasota, Texas, to Jesse Terry, Sr. and Zona Mae (Bean) Terry. After graduating from Weatherford High School, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a fingerprint technician for the FBI. During that time, she met her future husband, Paul, who was also beginning his career with the FBI. The two married, returned to Weatherford, and built a life centered on family and shared purpose.
BJ went on to dedicate 50 years of service to AT&T/Southwestern Bell Telephone, a career marked by loyalty and pride. In retirement, she remained active with fellow Bell System retirees through the Telephone Pioneers of America, helping preserve and promote the history of the telephone industry.
A faithful member of North Side Baptist Church, BJ was deeply devoted to both her faith and her community. She generously gave her time to organizations such as the Special Olympics and the Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth. In 2013, she was honored as Ms. Senior Parker County, proudly representing and serving the community she loved.
Above all, BJ was a devoted wife and mother who cherished her family. She made the intentional choice to forgo career advancement opportunities in order to invest more fully in raising her sons and supporting her husband. Her unwavering commitment created a home filled with warmth, laughter, guidance, and unconditional love - leaving a lasting legacy in the lives of those she held dear.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Terry, Sr.; her mother, Zona Mae Morgan; her stepfather, Paul Ray Morgan; and her sister, Dorothy LaNell Terry. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Paul Trammell Cox, Jr.; her son, Gregory Paul Cox; and her granddaughter, Caithan Cox.
BJ is lovingly remembered by her sons, Mirick Cox and wife, Debbie, of The Woodlands, Texas, and Alex Cox and wife, Ginger, of Plano, Texas; her grandchildren, Stefean Cox and wife, Sara, Greyson Cox, Taryn Cox, Kylie Cox, Sydney Eshbaugh and husband, Andrew, Evan Cox, Audrey Cox, and Weston Cox; and her great-granddaughter, Ruth Eshbaugh. She is also survived by her brother, J.T. Terry, Jr.
BJ will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas.
